Heavy Equipment Operator - Construction

Greater Toronto Area, ON, Canada
Full Time
Operations
Experienced

Since 2010, Hawkins Contracting has delivered high-quality, safe, and reliable work across utilities, infrastructure, environmental, and landscape construction. We are a WSIB Gold-level Small Business Health & Safety Leadership Award recipient, a multi-time IHSA Recognition of Performance Achievement winner, and a COR-certified contractor.

Our values - Team, Honesty, Problem-Solving, Ambition, Wellness, Courtesy, and Reliability - are not slogans. They define how work is performed on site, how people are treated, and how success is measured.

If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and contributing to varied, technically challenging civil projects in a company with clear standards and room to grow, this role may be a strong fit.

The Role

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will primarily operate excavators, with regular use of dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and trucks. You are expected to work productively and independently from day one, adapting to changing site conditions while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and equipment care.
This is not a seat-filling role. Success here requires sound judgment, initiative, and consistent reliability.

What Success Looks Like

Successful operators at Hawkins:

  • Complete equipment and vehicle pre-use inspections daily and resolve deficiencies before operation
  • Operate equipment safely, efficiently, and with respect for trenching rules, locates, slopes, and grades
  • Load trucks, trench, and grade competently without constant direction
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness, fluids, greasing, and basic diagnostics
  • Work reliably, punctually, and professionally, including Saturdays when required
  • Act with courtesy and integrity with teammates, clients, inspectors, and the public

Health and safety performance is non-negotiable. Technical skill without strong safety discipline is not acceptable.
